Section of Salaried Physicians

The Section of Salaried Physicians is organized for the purpose of providing a forum for practicing salaried physicians in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador to discuss the delivery of medical services and the advancement of issues that are common to salaried physicians.

The section will identify solutions to systemic problems affecting practice and delivery of care; develop strategies for consideration by the Board of Directors to enhance the physician and patient experience; and serve as a forum to voice expressions of concern and/or opinion for the benefit of the NLMA on any matter that may be of concern to the Section.

Membership

Any practicing salaried physician may opt to participate as a member of the Section, except for physicians practicing on a locum basis.

For further clarity, physicians who are on an Alternate Payment Plan (APP) and physicians who hold a Geographic Full-Time (GFT) appointment with Memorial University are not eligible for membership in the Section.

No more than two (2) executive committee members may be from the same discipline.

The section shall meet quarterly, or at the call of the chair, and a record of proceedings of meeting shall in a timely fashion be submitted to the Executive Director following such meeting.

The executive committee shall meet as necessary to facilitate the quarterly meetings of the section.

The chair of the executive committee shall call a special meeting when the input and feedback of a speciality or specialties, or the whole section, is required on an issue.

Authority

Members of the Association may organize Sections or Special Interest Groups as outlined in Section 17 of the NLMA By-Laws.  The Section of salaried physicians shall not make by-laws or policy(s) that are inconsistent with By-Laws and policy(s) of the NLMA.  Neither the chair of the section, or any member of the Section shall have the right to speak for the Association, but any resolution passed at a meeting of a Section or Special Interest Group may be submitted to the Board for consideration and such action as the Board may deem appropriate.
