Update on Transitioning to CorCare: the Epic Health Information System

Update on Transitioning to CorCare: the Epic Health Information System

We want to update the membership on the status of the Epic health information system, now referred to as CorCare, which will replace Meditech, the Client and Referral Management System (CRMS), and other health information systems (HIS) at NLHS.

As part of the “Wave 1” transition going live in April 2026, all physicians will transition to CorCare for programs and services that occur within NLHS facilities. Community physicians will continue to have access to HEALTHeNL and they will also be given access to Epic Care Link. Epic Care Link provides similar viewing functionality as HEALTHeNL. It also has new features such as paperless ordering of investigations, new notifications (such as notification of patient death during hospital stay), bidirectional communication with NLHS clinicians, and more.

This “Wave 1” transition is expected to bring many positive changes for both patients and clinicians. However, we understand that it raises significant questions regarding its impact on your practices and your patients. The NLMA is working closely with NLHS and the provincial government to ensure that critical issues specific to physicians are raised and addressed. We are also working with NLHS and the provincial government to address your questions around Wave 1 in a FAQ document, which we will include in a future communication.

An expansion of CorCare (Epic) to community-based physicians and others working outside NLHS is being considered in a second wave. The NLMA is actively collaborating with NLHS, Government, and the physician community as we gather more information, including determining potential implications for the eDOCSNL EMR Program, which uses Med Access by Telus.

Our priority is to ensure your interests are represented throughout this process and that any potential disruption to patient care is minimized. The NLMA has invited a group of salaried and fee-for-service physicians, including family medicine and other specialties, to advise the NLMA as a proposal is being developed.

This is a significant transition, and we understand you may have specific questions or concerns. Please do not hesitate to reach out to the NLMA during this transition. We will continue to advocate for a solution that works for all physicians, including those providing essential care in the community.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and dedication to your patients. We will be in touch with updates on our work with NLHS and Government as this transition moves forward.
