Update on the one-time Recognition and Retention Bonus

Update on the one-time Recognition and Retention Bonus

All applications received by Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services (NLHS) for the one-time Family Medicine Recognition and Retention Bonus of up to $25,000 have been submitted to the Department of Health and Community Services. The Department is currently processing these applications to determine eligibility and approve bonus amounts. Once individual applications are approved, NLHS receives confirmation of the awarded amounts and reaches out to each physician with their return-in-service agreement and payroll paperwork if necessary. A number of applications have already been processed and bonuses awarded. The Department has confirmed this is a priority, and it anticipates finalizing all remaining processing within the coming weeks.

Clarification on Return-in-Service Start Date
NLHS has confirmed to the NLMA that the start date of the one-year return-in-service agreement, in exchange for the Recognition and Retention Bonus, will be from the individual physician’s date of application. This was also confirmed by the Department of Health and Community Services on October 20, 2023.
