Update on Compensation for CorCare Training
As a result of continued NLMA advocacy on behalf of physicians, Government has revised its approach to compensation for CorCare training. The NLMA raised concerns about the adequacy of the initial offer and formally pushed for improved recognition of the significant time, disruption, and financial impact associated with CorCare training. While the outcome does not fully reflect everything the NLMA sought in its counterproposal, it represents meaningful movement from Government’s original position.
Under the updated decision:
- Physicians practicing in NL Health Services will be compensated at $125 per hour for up to 12 hours of training.
- Community‑based physicians will receive $125 per hour for up to six hours (an increase from two hours).Â
- Fee‑for‑service locum physicians are eligible for CorCare training compensation under the same fee‑for‑service provisions.
NL Health Services will provide locum physicians with access to CorCare training in advance of their arrival. Locums who have previously used the system may challenge the training through a short assessment and, if successful, obtain their credentials without completing the full training. A process will also be in place to support urgent or last‑minute access when required.
NLHS is developing a process for applying for payment for training and this information will be shared when made available.
