A joint statement from the NLMA and CFPC-NL

The Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association and the College of Family Physicians of Newfoundland and Labrador are deeply troubled by the recent instances of racism experienced by a Lewisporte physician and his family.

Racism, harassment, and violence have no place in our health care system or in our communities and must not be tolerated.

The NLMA and CFPC-NL highly value and appreciate our culturally diverse physician workforce. They are pillars in our communities and have provided untold service to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador, particularly in rural areas.

Our physicians in Lewisporte are committed to serving their patients and vulnerable populations in their region. We are grateful for your service and dedication, and we stand by you.

The NLMA and CFPC-NL call on the RCMP, the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District and the municipality of Lewisporte to ensure this matter is investigated and appropriately addressed.

We must all stand together to eliminate racism in our province.
