Provincial Deprescribing and Medication Appropriateness Initiative Focus Group: Open Call for Physician Participants

Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), in partnership with the Canadian Deprescribing Network, is seeking physicians - as well as pharmacists and nurse practitioners -  to take part in a focus group pertaining to the new Provincial Deprescribing Project – The provincial deprescribing project is a multifaceted project aiming to increase awareness of the use of inappropriate medications by bringing together key stakeholders who strive to improve medication appropriateness. The goal is to increase awareness of the overuse of inappropriate medications, improve ways of reducing them, and provide opportunity for deprescribing inappropriate medications via meaningful discussions between healthcare providers and patients and/or caregivers.

The focus group will be held within the next couple of weeks at MUN’s School of Pharmacy Medication Services Clinic in Tiffany Court. The purpose is to obtain feedback on the provincial deprescribing project from healthcare professionals, to obtain feedback on the evidence-based pharmaceutical opinion form, on how we can improve the implementation of the project and, in particular, how we can improve communication and collaboration among healthcare providers.

Physician engagement will be invaluable to the success of this innovative initiative and we look forward to partnering with you!

Interested participants are asked to contact the project coordinator, Kelda Newport, at keldag@mun.ca or 709-864-2863 by October 15, 2018.
